A shopping destination reminiscent of those found in the fashion meccas of Paris, Milan, New York, London and Tokyo; Faradays is spread across three floors of 131 Queen Street in Auckland. Approximately 3000m2 in size, it is home to 220 local and international brands.
The store offers an experience which transitions between large, open, light filled spaces that showcase fashion, beauty and fragrance, to the more underground, secluded and compact basement areas for lingerie, books, music and footwear.
CAPE undertook the basebuild, fitout and joinery installation scopes. All of which were initially expected to take eighteen months but reached completion in just nine short months.
Within Faradays we constructed two very distinct staircases, one sweeping and dramatic, the other strict and solid in form which openly invite shoppers to traverse freely between levels.
In addition to the stairs, we were also tasked with constructing and installing a three level glass elevator that runs between basement, ground and first floors.
With the floors covered in Italian marble, Danish timber, and NZ wool carpets, the ceilings a mix of French Barrisol and plastered bulkheads, and the joinery unit finishes ranging from specialist feature paint to burl and rosewood veneer with bronze trims, this store has to be seen to be believed.
Faradays. The department store, reimagined.
